The man who died in a law enforcement incident in the 400 block of 28 Road has been identified.
Aaron Blount, 46, of Grand Junction, died of a gunshot wound to the torso, according to the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.
The incident was turned over the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team to investigate.
On Jan. 19 around 7:11 p.m., Grand Junction Police were notified by hospital emergency room staff that an injured party was brought the ER by a neighbor. Staff at the local emergency room called police to report that an injured party had been assaulted and had sustained life-threatening injuries.
69´«Ã½PD officers then went to the address in the 400 block of 28 Road in Grand Junction to investigate. The suspect, now identified as Blount, refused to exit the residence and fired a weapon at the officers multiple times. One 69´«Ã½PD officer returned fire. SWAT operators responded to the scene and eventually made entry into the residence, where they discovered the suspect deceased.
As is standard protocol with any officer-involved shooting, the officer involved is currently on paid administrative leave. The Grand Junction Police Department will be responsible for releasing the names of the officers involved.
